There is no definite time line for a response. Make sure your attorney responded to all of the RFE.

As long as your wife has her own green card valid for ten years. She can apply for citizenship after being a green card holder for 5 years.

If the date retrogressed, generally he is no longer eligible.

You can apply for a waiver. It is best to have an attorney assist you.

Yes you can find attorneys who will go with to the interview. Some will insist however on reviewing the paperwork. Good luck.

You are not allowed to work. You got laid off thereby terminating your H1-B status. H1-Bs belong to the employer not you.
