Complete Lack of Management, Broken Promises, and Zero Accountability

BEFORE YOU HIRE KEVIN MICHAEL ACEVEDO-CARLSON OR ACE LAW, READ THIS. If you are looking for an attorney in Houston where Kevin Michael Acevedo-Carlson will actually manage your case, act with urgency, and take accountability when his firm fails, stay far away. His glowing reviews were why I hir...ed him. I was stressed, dealing with serious legal issues, and wanted leadership I could trust. This is not a "he said, she said" review. The dates, payments, delays, and communications below are documented by my signed agreement, timestamped emails, and ACE Law’s itemized billing records. Before I paid, they were responsive, organized, friendly, and efficient. I paid $200 for a consultation, $500 for a document review, and an $8,000 retainer on July 23, 2026. After they had my money, management collapsed completely. The core facts every potential client searching Avvo should know: The Consultation Switch: I paid $200 expecting Kevin Acevedo-Carlson to manage my case. Instead, I met with an associate, Aimara, who assured me Kevin would work closely on it. I never spoke to Kevin once during representation. 36 Days to Send One Email: My contract explicitly required ACE Law to get my core file from my previous lawyer. They billed me for allegedly discussing it in early August, but took 36 days to send a simple, one-paragraph email requesting it on August 28. Billed While My Crisis Became a Lawsuit: On August 14, I sent an urgent Notice to Vacate for their review and help. Instead of rejecting a case outside their scope, they took my paperwork, billed me for discussing it on August 18, 21, and 27, and kept promising a call. On August 26, an eviction lawsuit was filed against me while I waited on them. Weeks to Admit They Couldn't Help: I reported the lawsuit immediately. It wasn't until September 15, a month after the original notice and weeks after the lawsuit was filed, that ACE Law finally admitted they don't handle landlord-tenant cases. In total, ACE Law kept $4,460 ($200 consultation, $500 document review, and $3,760 from my retainer). They assisted with a mechanics lien bond using standard templates taking 1 to 3 hours of work at most. Is a few hours on a basic template worth $4,460 when they failed on everything else? You be the judge. To this day, I still do not have my client file, and I am facing an eviction lawsuit that proper management could have avoided on day one. Zero Accountability from the Top: When I brought this gross mismanagement directly to Kevin Acevedo-Carlson, he took zero responsibility. He endorsed these delayed practices, kept the full $4,460, and refused to make it right. That proved this was not just an associate dropping the ball. It is a fundamental failure of leadership from Kevin himself. The Bottom Line: I am not saying other reviews on Avvo are fake. Maybe Kevin helps some people, but he takes on matters his firm is not equipped to handle and fails to supervise his staff. If this were an isolated mistake, a responsible managing attorney would have refunded my money. Refusing to take accountability speaks volumes about his character as a firm leader. Kevin Acevedo-Carlson was fast at taking my money, but absent when it came to managing my case. Every word here is backed by signed agreements, emails, and billing records. Don't let glowing reviews fool you. Look elsewhere for real legal oversight.
