Maria Elena Holmes

Maria Elena Holmes has been zealously advocating for clients for years now. Her primary focus has been in the areas of immigration law, criminal and family. Ms. Holmes is admitted to practice law in Texas.

Prior to joining The Gonzalez Law Group, she worked as an immigration attorney for a solo practitioner's law office. She then went out on her own practicing immigration and family law, until she decided to join a law firm in San Antonio, Texas to expand her expertise to criminal law in order to better serve the need of clients with criminal cases facing immigration consequences.

Ms. Holmes is proficient in Spanish and English, and obtained her juris doctorate from St. Mary's University School of Law, where she served as President of the Black Law Students Association and was on the board of the Hispanics Law Students Association. During this time she clerked for Bexar County Judge Jason Pulliam, and worked for Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Inc. helping indigent clients. Ms. Holmes, along with Proyecto Azteca Inc. and Habitat for Humanity, coordinated the law school's alternative spring break trips to the Valley to help families on the border by building homes and hosting legal clinics covering estate planning and VAWA petitions.

She was selected to represent her law school in the External Advocacy Program competing in the Rocky Mountain Region Mock Trial Competition and advanced to the National Black Law Students Association's Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition in Washington, D.C. Ms. Holmes obtained her undergraduate degree from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, majoring in African American Studies with a minor in Government.
