CashmanIP will aggressively protect rights in and out of court. Even though we will not hesitate to start a patent lawsuit, we will encourage the business to agree to pay you a royalty through a license. Knowing that we have the right to move forward with a lawsuit, we will also encourage them to pay damages for their past unauthorized use of your patent. If you are more in the market to sell your patent rights rather than to enforce them in a court of law, we can negotiate a sale or a license.

Cashman IP, the intellectual property branch of the Cashman Law Firm, focuses on the inventor, protecting their invention and preventing other companies from stealing their ideas. We will search the prior art not only in terms of determining whether someone else already has already patented or marketed your invention, but to also determine the marketing potential of your invention. We will draft, prepare, and submit your invention to the USPTO, and we will respond to objections and rejections.

I am Robert Z. Cashman, a Texas Copyright & Patent Ligitation Attorney (USPTO Reg. No. 60,246), licensed to practice in the state of Texas, in New York, and before the US Patent & Trademark Office. I started the Cashman Law Firm PLLC hoping to help secure, protect, and enforce business ideas.

In 2010, seeing the kind of mass bittorrent-based copyright infringement lawsuits, I started the TorrentLawyer blog at so that I can help to fight against these cases.  We are now over ten years later, and these cases have morphed, but they have not gone away.  I still fight against these cases daily and help accused defendants figure out how to best counteract the claims in these federal court copyright infringement cases.

I graduated in 2006 from Touro Law School in New York. As a student (people ask), I received the CALI Award for Academic Excellence in Computer Law and Legal Philosophy. I interned at Scully, Scott, Murphy & Presser, PC in Garden City, NY. I started my career at an in-house PTO patent law practice and subsequently worked as a IP / business law attorney. I am currently living in Houston, Texas in Harris County, and am the owner of the Cashman Law Firm, PLLC ().

Talented, skilled, and very competent.
Robert was working on my case pro-bono. I am an actor and professional singer, and I was signing a contract that would bind me to the opera house I was working for. This was a problem because I had other engagements with off-broadway theaters and I didn't want any problems down the line. Robert was very helpful and he went through the contract with me and explained what each of the clauses meant. He even made a few suggestions which the opera house agreed to which has saved me over the years. I would definitely use him again, and this time I can pay his fee.
