Bao-Long Ngoc Hoang

This is Mr. Hoang’s story.  Mr. Hoang is a first-generation Vietnamese-American, born and raised in Houston.  He comes from a hard-working family that instilled the same work ethic in him.

Mr. Hoang attended the University of Texas in Austin where he studied Human Development and Family Sciences, a mixture of psychology and sociology.  Mr. Hoang acquired the skills to carefully listen and understand other people’s story through this training.  Mr. Hoang has always had a heart for helping people.  However, he wanted to take his counseling role a step further and advocate for the people around him.  It was then that Mr. Hoang decided to enter the legal field to make it happen.

Mr. Hoang’s law school career was one of the most influential years of his life. Not only did he learn the law, but he also got the opportunity to practice what he learned as a student attorney under the guidance of many great attorneys. Mr. Hoang was part of the Innocence Project Clinic where he was introduced to the area of post-conviction work.  It was also at the Innocence Project Clinic where Mr. Hoang worked with Mr. Chris Self which eventually led them to become partners in private practice. Mr. Hoang also honed his legal research and writing skill while he clerked at the the Court of Appeals for the First District of Texas as an intern for Justices Jim Sharp and Michael Massengale.

Mr. Self and Mr. Hoang established their private practice to focus on the area of criminal defense. Whether pre-trial litigation or post-conviction, Mr. Hoang has a client-centered approach.  He will listen to your story.  He will tell your story.
