Jules Evan Johnson

Jules Johnson is a Houston criminal defense attorney and Senior Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys with more than 20 years of legal experience. Mr. Johnson has served as a Texas prosecutor, federal public defender, Harris County public defender, private criminal defense attorney, law firm owner, and division chief at the Harris County District Attorney's Office. His experience on both sides of the criminal justice system gives him valuable insight into how criminal cases are investigated, charged, defended, negotiated, and tried.

Mr. Johnson began practicing law in Texas in 2003. He served as an Assistant Criminal District Attorney with the Brazoria County District Attorney's Office before entering private criminal defense practice. From 2011 to 2015, he was an Assistant Public Defender with the Harris County Public Defender's Office, representing clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges.

In 2015, Mr. Johnson joined the Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of Texas. As an Assistant Federal Public Defender, he represented individuals facing federal criminal charges, adding federal criminal defense experience to his extensive work in Texas state courts.

Mr. Johnson returned to prosecution in 2017 with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, where he ultimately served as Chief of the Civil Rights Division. In that role, he supervised attorneys and investigators while handling complex criminal matters. His prosecutorial experience provides firsthand knowledge of how prosecutors evaluate evidence, make charging decisions, prepare cases, negotiate resolutions, and develop trial strategies.

After leaving the Harris County District Attorney's Office in 2023, Mr. Johnson returned to private practice as a Trial Attorney with The Edward Law Group. He later served as a Member and Manager of The Practice, PLLC, before joining Michael & Associates in July 2026.

Today, Mr. Johnson represents clients facing criminal charges in Houston and throughout Texas. Drawing on more than two decades of prosecution and defense experience, he identifies factual, legal, and constitutional weaknesses in the government's case, anticipates prosecution strategies, negotiates when appropriate, and prepares cases for trial.

Mr. Johnson earned his BBA in Management from Texas Southern University and his Juris Doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law. He is licensed in Texas and admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Texas and the Northern District of Florida.

Outside the courtroom, Mr. Johnson is a first-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Pablo Silva, a former world champion, and a multi-time American National Champion.
