J. Anthony “Tony” Alvarez
Mr. Alvarez graduated from Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in 1986 where he earned an academic achievement award scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991, majoring in Economics and minoring in Spanish. Mr. Alvarez received his law degree from South Texas College of Law in December 1994. While at South Texas College of Law, he was an active member of the Board of Advocates and received various honors and awards. These included Best Brief honors in the Leroy Jeffers Moot Court Competition (1993), Best Team honors in the Garland R. Walker Mock Trial Competition (1994), and Second Place Team honors in the National Invitational Tournament of Champions Mock Trial Team Competition (1994).
Mr. Alvarez was licensed and admitted to practice in Texas in May 1995. He has devoted his legal career to representing various individual clients and corporate clients in litigation and transactional matters. Mr. Alvarez’s practice areas include Divorce and Family Law, Wills and Probate, Employment Law, Corporate Law and business formation, and other areas of practice. Mr. Alvarez has tried numerous cases in both state and federal courts throughout the State of Texas, including Harris, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Jefferson, Polk, Bexar, Travis, and Montgomery counties. These cases range from simple auto litigation matters to complex commercial and business litigation cases. Mr. Alvarez also represents clients in front of state and federal administrative agencies and boards such as the Department of Labor (“DOL”), Texas Workforce Commission (“TWC”), U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”), and Health & Human Services Commission (“HHSC”). Mr. Alvarez has a broad range of small to medium size corporate clients as well as clients with individual legal needs.
Mr. Alvarez is licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas and admitted to practice in all Texas Courts. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Houston Bar Association, Pro Bono College of the State Bar of Texas (2004), Houston Young Lawyers Association, Texas Young Lawyers Association, Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston, and Hispanic Bar Association. Mr. Alvarez is also a Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation (2004 – Present) and Houston Young Lawyers Foundation (2002 – Present). He served as Chairman (2002 and 2003) and Co‑Chair (2001) of the Houston Young Lawyers Association’s Special Olympics Auction and continues to help and advise various charitable organizations and groups in the Houston area.
Mr. Alvarez is a native Houstonian. He and his immediate family reside in Houston. Mr. Alvarez has also lived and studied in Mexico City, Mexico and Salamanca, Spain. Mr. Alvarez reads, writes, and speaks Spanish fluently.
