Dennis Damonn Spurling

Dennis Damonn Spurling completed his studies at Southern University Law Center in spring 2000, where he earned a perfect score on the Louisiana bar exam in July of that year. During his time at Tulane Law, he acquired hands-on experience at the Civil District Court of New Orleans, serving under judges such as Roland Belsome and Nadine M. Ramsey. These judges granted him curatorships which financially supported him throughout his education.

After graduating from Tulane Law in 2001, Spurling started working at a New Orleans plaintiff's firm as a legal secretary, with an initial pay of $10 per hour. Quickly recognized for his skills, he received a promotion and was tasked with drafting a Louisiana Supreme Court brief, Romero v. Bellina, which contributed to a $500,000 trial judgment. He also served as a clerk for Judge Wilford D. Carter in Calcasieu Parish.

Returning to the firm and contributing significantly, he opened his own law practice in Houston in 2005. In his first year running his practice, he secured a 3.2 million judgment in an environmental lawsuit, demonstrating his legal acumen. Spurling has since made a name for himself as a distinguished personal injury attorney, holding licenses in several states, and has successfully overseen more than 100 federal cases. He played a leading role in the Arkema Class Action, obtaining class certification for the residents of Crosby, Texas, affected by the incident. His role in the Philips CPAP Class Action litigation, which settled for $479 million, showcases his expertise in handling complex legal challenges.

On April 6, 2024, Mr. Spurling was inducted into the Attorney Hall of Fame at the Southern University Law Center 2024.
