Very Difficult to Work With

I had a very upsetting experience with this law firm and would not recommend them. They were very difficult to communicate with, and I felt like they were not very competent. I was involved in an immigration case that dragged on for several years. A friend recommended Timothy Hart's law firm, and ...I hired them. My first meeting with went well.. Timothy seemed nice and knowledgeable. But after that, trying to work and communicate with the office was very stressful. When I would call the office and leave messages, I would rarely get a call back. If I did, it was several days later. There was a time where I had a deadline coming up and needed to speak with the office, and both my mother and I called the office about 30 times over a period of 2 weeks before I was able to speak to someone about my case. Trying to schedule a meeting with my assigned lawyer would take several weeks, and would require a long wait in their crowded waiting room. When I moved out-of-state, I tried to schedule phone meetings with my lawyer. I was told that phone meetings were impossible and I'd have to come to the office in person. The poor communication made the stressful situation of being in a litigation even more stressful. When my first assigned lawyer showed up to one of the pre-hearings for my case, he was two-and-a-half hours late. When he arrived, he asked me questions about my case that gave me the impression that he didn't really know anything about it. It made me feel very worried. I made an appointment with Timothy at one point to vent my frustrations about working with the firm, and he seemed to accept the criticism, but the communication issues continued. At one point I needed to renew my I-94 at the customs office in Houston, but I was living out of state. I asked the second lawyer assigned to me if she could renew the document in person for me, and she agreed to do it for about $400. She tried going to the customs office twice when they were closed because she did not know their hours. The 3rd time, she was able to renew the document. Timothy tried to charge me the $400 fee three times because she made 3 trips, and I had to argue with them that it wasn't fair... she made a mistake and didn't look up the customs office's hours of operation in advance. Finally, I ended up hiring a new lawyer. I asked for a refund from this firm. I also asked for them to give me copies of all my paperwork, which they are required to do by law. They did not respond. I ended up having to file a complaint with the State Bar of Texas, who contacted Law Office of Timothy S. Hart, after which they gave me copies of my paperwork and a refund of 10% of the flat fee I had paid them. It was a very frustrating experience, and I would not recommend this firm to anyone
