A default judgment was entered against me for over $250,000 in a case I was never served or notified about. I found out from a letter. I needed an attorney to look at the facts and tell me whether I had grounds to overturn it. That's it. A straight answer. I retained Silberman Law Firm on February... 25 and paid $1,200 for what Ashley Hoyer described as an investigative retainer to evaluate my case. On the phone she told me three times that the $1,200 would get me a clear answer on whether I could fight this. Her exact words: "We'll let you know, hey, man, this is worth it or it's not. We're not just gonna send you into a shark tank if we don't think this is gonna go somewhere." They assigned Tom Lee - a real estate and civil litigation attorney. On March 5 at 1:59 PM, after a week of pulling the court file and asking me four questions, Tom emailed that he "cannot evaluate" my chance of success without additional research, and that I'd need to pay another $5,000. At 4:11 PM - two hours and twelve minutes later - he emailed again to withdraw, admitting the case was "beyond typical for my client representation in real estate and civil litigation." They took my $1,200, gave me a half-assed line that said "it'll be tough," and then ghosted me. The only thing I've heard from them since is a bill.
