Custom Home Contractor Bankruptcy
Several years ago, I had the unfortunate experience of having the contractor for my custom home go bankrupt. Building a home was stressful enough in and of itself, but it became a nightmare when I found out five months after moving into the home that my contractor had not paid several of his subcontractors in full and they were then coming after me for something I had already paid the contractor for. I wasn’t the big fish of a client that partners in law firms typically take on, and the amount the subcontractors were seeking was trivial for most, but it was a big deal to me and my young family. I was fortunate that the window to file a lien on my property had passed. Joshua took the time to contract and inform each of the attorneys for the subcontractors that any attempt to cloud our title would result in us going after them for the maximum amount allowed under Texas law. The calls and the letters stopped, and me and my family were finally able to enjoy our new home.

Very appreciative of the expert advise provided by Joshua Mermis
I hired Joshua in February of 2018 to represent me in a RCLA (Residential Construction Liability Act) claim after failing to resolve warranty issues with my builder on my own. Joshua provided excellent and realistic advise throughout. He was always well prepared and kept me informed. The settlement that was reached, without having to go to expensive arbitration, was very fair and I am thankful for the guidance that Joshua provided.

Expert in field with tactical and strategical approach
Mr. Mermis is an excellent attorney that we hired to represent us when were having problems with our new construction builder. Through his guidance we filed a RCLA and lawsuit due to poor construction practices resulting in water penetration and numerous defects. Mr. Mermis was outstanding in providing a roadmap to collect for damages and for his preparation for our case in arbitration. Not only is he an expert in legal matters, but his ability to easily explain the situation and options for us to consider for our family was greatly appreciated. This was our first experience hiring an attorney and we are so impressed with his professionalism and knowledge that we would not hesitate contacting him again. I highly recommend Mr. Mermis for anyone looking for an attorney to represent them on a residential case.

Gets the job done!
I work for a construction company and we were experiencing trouble with collections. When we switched our legal counsel to Mr. Mermis, we saw an increase in past due collections and faster collection times. He has also helped keep our contracts up to date and helps with risk mitigation.
