Biography
Defense lawyer Betsy Stukes has dedicated her career to defending those accused of a crime, and she is committed to helping people through difficult times.
Betsy graduated from the University of Georgia with two B.A. degrees in Political Science and Speech Communication, graduating magna cum laude in both. After her undergraduate education, she studied at The University of Texas School of Law in Austin, earning her Juris Doctorate (J.D.). While in law school, she gained practical legal experience through the Criminal Defense Clinic, Juvenile Justice Clinic, Domestic Violence Clinic, and Actual Innocence Clinic. She also served as Chief Articles Editor for the American Journal of Criminal Law and earned the Texas Exes Teaching Award. Additionally, Betsy served as a law clerk for the Texas Defender Service, Travis County Juvenile Public Defender, Charleston County Public Defender, and the Harris County Public Defender.
Aside from her personal accomplishments thus far, Betsy Stukes has volunteered her time to teach local students in the community about basic legal issues, helped those in abusive relationships obtain divorces from their spouses, and lobbied for residents’ property rights in the Rio Grande Valley.
Betsy is a member of the Houston Bar Association, Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association, and Texas Young Lawyers Association.
