James Alfred Southerland

Practice focuses on labor and employment-related litigation before state and federal courts and agencies, including claims involving equal employment opportunity laws, unfair labor practices, wage and hour issues, unemployment compensation, wrongful discharge, and state law tort and contract claims. He counsels clients regarding developments in the areas of counseling and discharge issues, executive compensation, family and medical leave, wrongful discharge, and restrictive covenants.

Counsels employers, executives and employees in the drafting of employment and severance agreements. Review of handbooks, plans and other employee benefit documents. Have handled litigation dealing with pension and disability plans.

Assists employers with the implementation of I-9 policies and procedures, the review of I-9 forms, and responding to investigations and inquiries from the Department of Homeland Security.
