Peri Hayriye Alkas

Peri Alkas has considerable litigation experience, having taken over 65 civil and criminal cases to trial. Her practice is primarily in the area of insurance and reinsurance. Her experience includes first-party claims, insurance bad faith and extra-contractual litigation. She often provides insurers with complex claims-handling advice, first- and third-party coverage opinions and guidance concerning Texas insurance statutes.

Ms. Alkas has also litigated in a variety of areas of civil litigation.  Those matters have included theft of trade secrets, tortious interference with business, construction defects, multi-party class actions (e.g. Phen-Fen), products liability, personal injury, premises liability, police and governmental entity defense, dram shop defense, and employment lawsuits throughout the state of Texas.  That breadth of experience has benefited clients ranging from Fortune 100 businesses to sole proprietors.  Previously, Ms. Alkas was a prosecutor with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office where she investigated, pled or tried a range of misdemeanor and felony cases.

Ms. Alkas serves as the practice coordinator of Phelps Dunbar's Houston insurance group.
