Jacob Michael Stephens

I represent owners, general contractors, subcontractors and sureties on a wide variety of construction related issues. My representative experience includes contract issues, mechanic’s liens, contractual and statutory indemnity, payment and performance bonds, construction defects, and contract termination in both the public and private sectors. 

I have also represented insurance agencies, real estate agents, health care providers and commercial landlords in various litigation including Texas Insurance Code and deceptive trade practice claims, professional liability claims, employment law issues, contract claims and evictions, landlord-tenant issues, negligence and premises liability claims, and I regularly advise clients relating to other general business law matters.

I have extensive experience defending national and regional financial institutions against claims brought by consumers and borrowers under various theories of liability, including breach of contract, conversion, deceptive trade practices, fraud, negligence, wrongful foreclosure, as well as a variety of Texas Uniform Commercial Code claims. In addition, I regularly advis financial institutions on issues relating to real estate tax litigation, having represented financial institutions in hundreds of cases involving ad valorem taxes on their collateral and property.

I have also assisted many individuals in divorce and child custody matters as well as probate issues.
