As a mother, I am extremely disappointed and angry about my experience with attorney Daryl Ward. When your child is facing serious aggravated charges, you expect their attorney to know what they are doing, to fight for them, and to take their case seriously. I did not feel that happened with my son. ... I took the time to contact other attorneys and ask them about Mr. Ward. The attorneys I spoke with told me they did not know him and were not familiar with his work. That immediately raised serious concerns for me. I was also deeply frustrated because I did not see the kind of motions, preparation, or aggressive representation I expected for charges as serious as aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. On top of that, I was asked to consider a 30-year sentence. As a mother, hearing that was heartbreaking. I am not writing this because I am looking for sympathy. I am writing it because I believe other families deserve to know about my experience. When someone’s freedom and future are on the line, you cannot afford to simply assume an attorney is the right person for the job. Do your research. Ask how much experience they have with the exact charges your loved one is facing. Ask what motions they plan to file. Ask what their strategy is. Talk to other attorneys. Get a second opinion. I trusted an attorney with my son’s future, and I am deeply disappointed with how things turned out. If I could go back and make the decision again, I would ask a lot more questions before hiring him.
