Thank you for checking me out on AVVO! I would love to give you some background on myself. For the past 18 of 22 years I have dedicated my life to criminal law practice. I know how to defend a case because I've been the person who brought the cases; I know how the state thinks and I know where to push. Although I am experienced on both sides of the table, and on the bench, criminal defense work has been the most rewarding career I have ever had. I was appointed Presiding Judge for the City of McKinney from 2019-2024, and am a former prosecutor with experience trying all types of felony and misdemeanor cases including DWI, theft, assault, child crimes, fraud, murder, sexual assault, burglary, robbery, and organized crime. I was assigned Second Assistant District Attorney & Chief of Misdemeanor Trial Division. I trained numerous prosecutors, staff, and police on courtroom procedure and testimony. Prior to my time as Second Assistant, I was the Chief Felony Prosecutor for the Special Prosecution Division, responsible for prosecution of financially motivated criminal activity, organized crime, and public integrity matters. I was trained in cyber crime and computer forensics at the National Institute for Computer Forensics (NCFI), the Secret Services' training facility, in Hoover Alabama. Other assignments as an ADA included the Crimes Against Children Division, Felony Trial Team, and Drug Court. Prior to my time as an assistant district attorney, I was a civil litigator in downtown Dallas. In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with my family, including one fat marshmallow of a cat.

"I endorse this lawyer.I have known Claire for many years as a former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney. We also worked together as prosecutors when Claire was 2nd Assistant. She is thorough, tough, and professional. Claire has great knowledge of the law and will work non-stop to assist her clients through the legal process."
"I wholeheartedly endorse this lawyer. Claire is a well-regarded and driven attorney who has provided exceptional legal representation to numerous clients throughout the U.S. With her extensive knowledge, broad experience and impressive professional skills, she is bound to invest her time and energy into achieving the best outcome for each case, regardless of its level of complexity."
"Claire and I were trial partners way back when, when we were both prosecutors. Even back then, she had a great presence in the courtroom. Since then, she's gained so much more experience both as a prosecutor and defense attorney. She's definitely on my short list of lawyers I would recommend in the area."
"Claire was my supervisor at the Collin County District Attorney’s Office. As a prosecutor she gave me lots of invaluable information on criminal law and trial procedure. She is always professional, polite, knowledgeable and an all-around terrific attorney."
"Claire is a tireless advocate for her clients, investigating all aspects of the facts and potential legal issues. She is well regarded at the courthouse and has the respect of her peers. I recommend her highly!"
"I have worked with Claire as a prosecutor and now as a defense attorney. Claire is a skilled advocate who has a great reputation for working hard for her clients to get the best results. I am honored to work closely with Claire in my office and know that she will do her best for our clients and has the trial skills to do so as well. She is well liked by Judges and has trained most of the prosecutors currently in the county courts in Collin County. I highly recommend Claire Petty."
