Misty Farris manages the firm’s Law and Motions Department, which briefs substantive trial court motions and appellate matters in all of the law firm’s practice areas in state and federal courts across the country.
Misty’s practice is focused on public client litigation and pharmaceutical and medical device litigation. She works on behalf of government entities in litigation targeting alleged deceptive marketing and overprescribing of highly addictive opioid painkillers.
Misty's previous experience was in toxic torts, with an emphasis in workplace injuries. She has worked on motions, responses, jury charges, and appellate briefs on behalf of thousands of toxic tort clients over the course of her career.
In 2006, Misty was one of a team of attorneys named Trial Lawyers of the Year by Public Justice for work on behalf of a community in Tucson, Arizona whose groundwater was contaminated with TCE.
Misty represented the organization Public Justice as Amicus Curiae in Norfolk & Western Railway Co. v. Ayers and Dow Chemical Company v. Stephenson before the United States Supreme Court and has also represented the American Association for Justice and the Texas Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (Tex-ABOTA) as Amicus Curiae. She served for several years as a member of the Amicus Commitee of the American Association for Justice.
Misty attended the University of Houston, where she received her Bachelor's degree in English, summa cum laude. After college, Misty worked in publishing and in social service settings before entering law school to find a way that she could help people, use her strengths in research and writing, and be challenged. She earned her Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Texas School of Law. While continuing to practice law, Misty also earned a Master’s of Divinity from Southern Methodist University.
When not practicing law, Misty is busy with her family and in her community, and she often has her nose in a book.

"I worked with Misty for approximately 10 years in the appellate department at Baron & Budd. Misty was a senior attorney when I started and I could depend on her when I had questions about various issues that came up on a daily basis. Misty can easily pinpoint legal issues that will pose a potential problem, as well as how to address those issues. Misty's writing is seamless and absent the legalese that plagues so much legal briefing. Even though we have not worked in the same office for over 7 years, I can still contact Misty to assist with both small and large legal issues."
"Misty Farris is one of the finest appellate lawyers I know. Misty’s keen analytical skills allow her quickly to fashion or fend off legal arguments, as the need arises. A highly creative thinker, Misty enjoys and excels at developing winning legal strategies. Her passion for her clients infuses everything she writes, resulting in briefs and trial level responses demonstrating not just that her client’s position is the right one, but why. Her written work is the perfect balance of structure and inspiration. At argument or in a hearing, Misty is always prepared, demonstrating a pleasant demeanor whether addressing the court uninterrupted or hopping nimbly from topic to topic in responses to the judges’ questioning. Time and again, her talent, skill, dedication and hard work have paid off in impressive results for Misty's clients in her trial and appellate practice. They are fortunate to have her on their side."
