Regarded as one of Texas' top family law and appellate lawyers, Richard R. Orsinger lives in San Antonio and maintains offices in both San Antonio and Dallas. A partner in the Dallas-based Family Law firm of McCurley Orsinger McCurley Nelson & Downing L.L.P, Richard handles cases across Texas, including in San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Austin, El Paso, and Corpus Christi, as well as appeals to Texas courts of appeals and the Texas Supreme Court. In its Go-To Guide, Texas Lawyer newspaper named Richard the top Family Lawyer in Texas in 2007, and among the state’s top five Family Lawyers in 2002 and 2012. Richard has been honored among all Texas lawyers as one of the state's Top 10 attorneys by Texas Super Lawyers, Thomson Reuters Legal Division, four times, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. He also has been named among the "Top 100 Lawyers in Texas" in the Texas Super Lawyers list every year since 2003. Among his other accolades, he has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America in Family Law every year since 1987 and in Appellate Law since 2007. In 2011 and 2012 he was named the Family Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers. In 2014, Richard received the prestigious Dan Rugely Price Memorial Award from the Texas Bar Foundation in recognition of his dedication to the legal profession. He also has twice (2009 and 2013) been the recipient of the College of the State Bar of Texas' Best Continuing Legal Education article award.
The 39-year family law practitioner has extensive experience negotiating and litigating family law cases and has handled many jury and non-jury trials involving property and child custody issues. He is often hired by other attorneys to provide assistance in complex family law disputes due to his expertise in resolving complicated property questions and in handling expert witnesses in property and custody cases. Because of his knowledge of legal procedure and evidence rules, he is also called upon to serve as co-counsel by family lawyers who seek to maximize their chance of success in cases they expect to be appealed to a higher court.
