Shawn Eric Shearer

After more than twenty years of practice inside law firms and as in-house counsel to National Airlines, AdvancePCS (now CVS Caremark) and 7-Eleven, Shawn Shearer formed The Shearer Law Group to provide his personal representation to individuals and small to medium sized businesses. The Shearer Law Group's practice focuses on personal, business and commercial transactions of all types as well as all related litigation. 

With over a decade of experience as in-house counsel, Mr. Shearer has been a client.  He has hired outside counsel, managed legal budgets and reviewed legal invoices. The result, a client-friendly perspective that balances client needs, legal and business processes, efficiency and budget. Mr. Shearer is attuned to each of The Shearer Law Group client's individual goals. 

Our transaction and litigation experience provides a unique insight into related areas such as disputes between business partners and divorce proceedings involving business assets. 

Mr. Shearer began his career in Phoenix, focusing on corporate finance, banking regulations and securities at the Streich Lang (now Quarles & Brady) and Bryan Cave law firms. In 1999, he moved into the corporate sector and became Associate General Counsel for the then emerging National Airlines in Las Vegas. During this time, Mr. Shearer acquired expertise in the areas of union and labor relations, equipment leasing negotiation and finance, aircraft acquisition and registration and Chapter 11 reorganization, negotiation and litigation.

In 2002 Mr. Shearer accepted a position in the Dallas area as Assistant General Counsel for AdvancePCS, now CVS Caremark. While at AdvancePCS, he practiced with an emphasis on corporate governance, Securities and Exchange Commission periodic filings and compliance, mergers and acquisitions and hostile takeover defense. Following the acquisition of AdvancePCS by Caremark, Mr. Shearer became Senior Counsel and Assistant Secretary for 7-Eleven, Inc. This position afforded him extensive experience in the areas of gasoline distribution, franchising, licensing, tax, environmental remediation and litigation, class action litigation, PMPA, and government investigations.

In 2013, Mr. Shearer  formed The Shearer Law Group to translate his in-house experience back into providing effective and efficient outside counsel services. 

Originally from West Des Moines, Iowa, Mr. Shearer received his B.S. in Economics from the University of Iowa in 1990. An accomplished debater, Shawn was awarded a full-ride scholarship in debate, and was a four-time qualifier to the National Debate Tournament. His summers were spent as an instructor at various Debate Institutes, including Dartmouth College, American University, Baylor University, Georgetown University and the University of Iowa. During his tenure in law school, he served as assistant coach for the University of Iowa Debate Team. He earned his J.D. from the University of Iowa School of Law in 1993, graduating fourth in his class. His awards include graduating with High Distinction, Order of the Coif, Second Place National Labor Law Writing Contest and Appellate Advocacy-Outstanding Advocate. He was a member of the University of Iowa Moot Court Team. Shawn currently serves on the Board of the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance. 

Mr. Shearer has active licenses in the State of Texas, the Federal District of Arizona and the United States Tax Court. He is also a member of the Iowa and Arizona State Bar Associations.
