Laura Jane Durfee

Laura Jane Durfee is a trial lawyer experienced in complex commercial litigation. She has appeared in state and federal courts throughout the country litigating breach of contract, fraud, negligence, False Claims Act, toxic tort, deceptive trade practice, state and local tax, consumer class action, health care, employment, defense contractor, director and officer liability, privacy, warranty, and oil and gas disputes. She is also a member of a Jones Day team that defends Laboratory Corporation of America in professional negligence litigation across the country related to Pap smear and other laboratory tests. In addition, Laura Jane has experience defending clients in criminal proceedings.

Laura Jane also represents clients in internal and government investigations, including matters involving the Department of Justice, Department of Labor, and Securities and Exchange Commission. Most recently, she has assisted in internal investigations for companies related to visa application practices and alleged False Claims Act violations.

Laura Jane maintains an active trial and appellate pro bono practice. At the trial level, she has represented clients in state and federal courts in divorce, child support, child custody, section 1983, and criminal proceedings. Additionally, through Jones Day's association with the City Attorney Office of Grand Prairie, Texas, she served as a municipal prosecutor and successfully prosecuted several cases before judges and juries. On the appellate side, Laura Jane has briefed cases before the United States Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Fifth, and Sixth Circuits. She has also argued before the Sixth Circuit.
