Several reviewers praise the lawyer for providing supportive, organized, and reassuring representation in family law and custody matters. A similar number of reviews also note concerns regarding a perceived shift in the lawyer's confidence and preparation close to court dates, leading to less satisfactory experiences.

Custody case

This was my first experience with an attorney, and I can say I was 100% dissatisfied. First reason, I spent 2650.00 on a case that was free the first time with the exact same outcome. Why? I hired Sheila to represent me in a case that involved my children's custody and child support. The first visit ...I had with this woman she really acted like my case was great there was no way a court was going to not see the things I was talking about, then when the other party hired an attorney; sheila informed me we would at least need a plan b in case things went south. I was asking for no custody or at least supervised visitations just no over night. Sheila never asked me important questions about past arrangements with my children's other side of family which ultimately lead to the losing of my case. When arriving to court finally after nearly 5 months she spent all of her time going back and fourth with the other attorney trying to "settle" because if I was to show a judge I allowed my children to stay the night with grandma I would lose anyways, and not once mentioned the fact he was 7 years delinquent on child support. I was charged for my "free consultation" and when I attempted to confront the woman about it she proceeded to grill me with the fact she didn't charge me for all kinds of things for my case. I left out of anger and no words to her because I can honestly say this woman did not put any effort into this case. She assumed it would be cake walk, and that it was a quick money. The most important advice I can give is don't be fooled by the excitement she gives you in the first visit about your case. Explore your options first with a few others, and don't hire her on impulse.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
