Poor administrative handling

First of all, I will acknowledge that some of our trouble was due to the 2020 Pandemic. Mr. Sheetz got our single-decendent will into the probate courts in a timely manner and the court shut-down happened about 30 days later. We waited for a phone hearing and kept checking with Mr. Sheetz, but he... said he was still waiting to hear from the courts for a date. I called the Probate court to find out about the current processes and was informed that the lawyers were supposed to call to ask for an appointment. I let Mr. Sheetz's office know about this and got a call later that day from him that we had a court date set for three weeks from that day. I confirmed with him that he would hire the necessary notary public and that we would meet in his Dallas office. At 5:00 pm the day before the hearing, he called to tell us that we needed to hire our own notary. After several attempts, we were able to find a mobile notary that was available. We were also required to print out our own blank documents to take with us to the meeting (at the lawyer's office). The next day, Mr. Sheetz was not at the office to meet us. He was at the Fort Worth office instead of the pre-arranged meetup in the Dallas office. His office was locked (another lawyer was inside on a call and would not let us in) A building manager was able to procure an empty meeting room for us to have our phone call. The court clerk began the 3-way call and we were able to proceed. After the hearing, Mr. Sheetz told us that the court would send the final order to him and we would be able to pick them up. Today, we called to check up on the orders, and were told that we had to order it ourselves. All of this is 7 months following the initial filing for a process that should have taken 30 days per Mr. Sheetz. Meanwhile, the estate home, vehicles and financial property is still in limbo and cannot be settled until we can get the court order.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
