My story is similar to Doug’s. I actually had a male attorney before I meet Beverly. Ironically, I got this attorney’s name and number through a Fathers for Equal Rights group. Our first mediation, he basically told me I should accept everything she was asking for, which was sole custody and quite... a bit of back child support that I didn’t feel I owed. I am glad I had the frame of mind to know that what he told me was wrong, I asked him if he was working for me or her and walked out. Shortly after that I met Beverly through a friend/co-work. I’ll tell you what, she has been a blessing. My ex-wife was a stripper and had a lot of money at her disposal at the time. I worked a knuckle busting job to pay child support and keep health insurance on the kids. I’m not complaining about the work because I have always worked hard but the point is I didn’t have any disposable income to pay for an attorney. After an interview and heart to heart about my situation and my kids, Beverly took my case and worked with me on payments that I could afford. It has taken years and a lot of ups and downs but the most important thing is that I received residential custody of both of my children. In 2008 Ms. Storey took up my child support case simply on the request of an old aquaintance. I had no money, and no chance of winning custody of my 2 children. The mother of my children, a 20 year paralegal who thought she WAS a lawyer, was intending on taking our children from Texas to Indiana. I w...as desperate, and devastated. My retainer was a ring, and my word. Beverly, a devout Christian, litigated my case against a $450 hour attorney, and his top gun, $150 hour paralegal. She decimated not only my former wifes case, but the legal team, as well. It took me a year to pay Ms. Storey. She never once, asked, or harrassed me for payment. Years later, she again represented me. This time for an agreement of payment on the 20k in child support on behalf of my former wife. Due to adverse circumstances with my son, I agreed to let him move with his mother in Indiana. Ms. Storey negotiated an amicable settlement between my former spouse, her attorney, and the court. Regrettably, and with much embarrassment, I was unable to pay Beverly for her services. She was rightfully upset, but has to this day, remained professional, and friendly. I remember her telling me on that last court date, that my son would one day regret his choice of going to his mother, and return on his own volition. She was correct, as this December, he called and asked to return to me, his father. There will always be those who think they know the law better than their attorney, or those who believe that their attorney did nothing for them.
