Unfortunately, I had need for the services of a really good criminal attorney a few years ago. With no prior criminal record, I had fallen prey to alcoholism and racked up THREE DUI charges in 10 months. I thought I was done for - professionally, legally and personally. I felt tremendous despair a...nd lack of hope. Fortunately, I had heard about the Shapiro law firm. I engaged (and reengaged) Todd's services. In the process, Todd did TWO amazing things for me, neither of which I can adequately express enough thanks for. When we were facing the third charge, he strongly encouraged me to seek medical help because, legal consequences aside, he knew from experience that something was really wrong. And he was, of course, right. So I went to in-patient treatment. A cynic might suggest that this was simply to build a better legal case. No doubt that was part of it, but that still does not lessen it's value. Yet, in knowing people well, I could also sense a level of personal compassion in the suggestion that went beyond the final outcome of the case. My life was dramatically changed as a result of that and I am walking free from addiction today. Secondly, Todd worked every imaginable avenue to pull a proverbial rabbit out of the legal hat. I had plead guilty to the first two charges because they were so overwhelmingly clear. I did not WANT to fight them - I wanted an extremely good plea bargain instead - which Todd got! So now we were looking at a potential felony conviction on this third. It settled as a first time class-B misdemeanor!! I am still a bit stunned when I consider it, though that happened nearly two years ago. A lot of things went in to that final outcome, certainly including my rehabilitation stay. Yet, in my greatest optimism, I did not envision that kind of final outcome! To this day it strikes me as near miraculous. So I am also walking free today in a literal sense. Free from addiction and free from jail! I cannot IMAGINE another lawyer who could have done all this for me. Todd's deep experience, his unrivaled network and his just plain brilliant "street smarts" make him an attorney unequaled in my estimation. God forbid, but if I were EVER in criminal trouble again, Todd is the first and only attorney I would want to go to. He is simply that good!

Todd Shapiro came highly recommended and I now know why. When facing charges for a third DWI, he listened to me and walked me through the options that may occur. He was straight forward and although he was going to try and fight for the drug court program and probation I wanted, he did not give me ...false hope and let me know prison time was likely. He thoroughly answered any questions I had at any moment and never made me feel small. He answered our phone calls 24 hours a day and was able to help in whatever way I needed. I hired Todd last year to help with my DWI charge. He always kept me well informed on when and where to be in court and what would be happening at each appearance. Todd S. unfortunately had me speak on the stand with an awful result. We both did not know the result would be poor (he’d originally told me when I’d asked ‘do you suggest I do this?’) ‘It can’t hurt you’ was his response to me. Mistake on my and his part, however after he told me then, in 2/2023, y...our case won’t wrap up for ‘many’ months … I believed him, yet the next court appearance was 4/2023 and my criminal (second DWI) case wrapped up immediately & I had to speak on my behalf, again, which I’d told him I did not want to do (i.e. rather I’d said I wanted him to do it for me as my hired counsel due to my very poor job in 2/2023). He advised me just prior to walking into court 4/2023 that I ‘had’ to speak again on my on my own behalf. Result: as I did not know case was wrapping up immediately, no warning from Todd .… I was sentenced to what I considered a much harsher sentence than expected as I was unprepared for the resolution. This caused me to hire a one-time subsequent attorney for a hearing afterwards … and thankfully I was able to pay for a second attorney to, again, represent me… in 8/2023, Ryan Grant from Addison, TX, who was amazing as he earned an adjusted/better outcome. Due to Ryan’s help I had a much, much better outcome. My only suggestion re Todd Shapiro, from Plano, TX: Buyer Beware. Todd is a good guy and pretty capable but, in this second instance where I hired him, I genuinely believe he gave up excellent representation for the $13,000 I’d paid him upfront and, rather, gave me mediocre service.
