I was born in apartheid South Africa and worked as an English high school teacher in Johannesburg. After getting married my husband was offered a job in Atlanta, GA. I first came to the United States in 1990 with my 3 year old daughter and husband with an H1-B work visa. After living in Atlanta and Wisconsin, I applied for and got a green card and began my first year of law school in Wisconsin. I then moved to the Dallas area to attend school at the prestigious SMU, Dedman School of Law in 1997 and have been a Texas resident since then. In 2003, I studied for my LLM in international trade and investment law at the very famous American University in Washington D.C. After graduation I worked as a trade policy analyst at the National Department of Trade and Industry, South Africa. I returned to DFW to resume private practice in January 2008.
