Before joining McCathern, Shokouhi, Evans, Grinke as a partner in 2019, Scott J. Becker presided over the 219th State District Court in Collin County, Texas from 2010 through 2018. As a court of general jurisdiction, Scott presided over a broad variety of matters including multi-million dollar civil litigation, family law matters including divorces and child custody disputes, and felony criminal matters including murder. Two of the cases over which Scott presided have been the subject of television episodes: CBS’s 48 Hours: Taken Away (aired September 2017) and Dateline NBC’s: Someone Was Waiting (aired December 2016).
Scott Becker is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Less than 1% of all lawyers in the State of Texas have this certification. In addition, he is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
His broad background and expertise uniquely position Scott to assist clients in all three areas of Family, Civil, and Criminal matters. With over 20 years of experience as a lawyer and over eight years on the bench, Scott has the unique skills to help clients prevail in court, and the wisdom to help them avoid it if they wish. He can still be called on to help resolve matters through alternative dispute resolutions such as mediation, arbitration, and summary jury trials.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Scott Becker played baseball as a Freshman under the legendary Coach Cliff Gustafson, before he realized his future lay in academics rather than on the pitcher’s mound. Afterwards he went on to Southern Methodist School of Law where he was a member of the Order of Barristers, a prestigious advocacy honor society. Currently, Scott is a member of the Curt B. Henderson Inn of Court, The Collin County Bar Association, and the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists (TAFLS).
In his free time Scott Becker enjoys reading, writing, being with his family, and also pretending he knows how to play poker and golf.

“Judge Becker was able obtain a complete dismissal of my case. When I came to his office, I was scared this case was going to ruin my upcoming college and be a mark on my record to get a good job. He was able to walk me through the process and left knowing I was in good hands. Because of his years ...

Last year my son had an incident at school. My son faced serious criminal charges even though it was a mistake and misunderstanding. We hired Judge Becker, because of his experience as both a former prosecutor and former judge. He knew how the process worked and was able to get the charges dismissed....

When I was falsely accused of a crime I did not commit, Judge Becker was exactly the lawyer I needed. He was able to convince the Grand Jury of my innocence and they rejected the case with a No-Bill. I was facing a second degree felony and possibly 20 years in prison. I was scared this case was going...
