It is very important you file an extension before your H expires otherwise you are out of status. Worst case you could change to a B visa but...

You can only try. You have nothing to lose. There is greater risk trying to reenter on an expired green card

I would make na infopass appointment and explain your situation. I would also follow up with a letter attaching all your proof that you requested...
