Melissa grew up in a single-parent household with a strong working mother as a role model.  Seeing how hard her mother worked to make ends meet, Melissa knows that it takes dedication to succeed.  Melissa decided from a young age that she wanted to put that work ethic and drive to use for others.  Because she enjoyed law and how it could help people, she became an attorney.

Born in Colorado, Melissa moved with her family to Tulsa in 2001 to attend the University of Tulsa College of Law where she graduated with her Juris Doctor with honor in 2004.  Since graduating, Melissa has focused her practice on all issues dealing with families including divorce, child custody, child support, adoption, alimony, legal separation, prenuptial agreements and appeals.

Tenatious & Talented
I have worked with Melissa for over 8 years, at times what seemed to me exhausting and endless. She is practical, KNOWS THE LAWS, a powerful fighter for family and children. She is compassionate to sensitive matters, listens attentively, processes, answers questions with a quick turnaround time, and remains calm in highly emotional situations. She has a dynamic working relationship within her community; well-known and respected. Melissa and her team are professional, respectful and work collaboratively with each other and their clients. Their communication is constant, and things get done. There were times when giving up would have been easier, but she handled apprehension with grace and strength. Family issues require empathy, patience, and compassion while emotions are volatile. Melissa has demonstrated from the beginning & over the years her abilities, talents and tenacious drive to do what is best and right in difficult situations. She is trustworthy, ethical and committed to finding a resolution, agreement, or final disposition. She motivates and empowers those who feel all hope may be lost or the damage is irreversible. Melissa carves a path to explore options. She takes every step with you until we are able to find our through difficult times.

Thank you for your incredibly kind words! It was a pleasure representing you and I thank you for letting me go on this part of your journey with you. Issues in family law can be difficult legally, emotionally and financially so it is important that you have an attorney you trust who will empower you and who will help you navigate the law where it takes not only an understanding of the written law but an understanding of the other factors that will impact your case.

Excellent Attorney. Very good staff and service.
I hired Melissa to represent me in a divorce action of which she took the lead and brought resolution to a difficult case. Melissa is straight forward and has a cool head. Melissa works very hard for the best outcome of her client. I would not hesitate to recommend Melissa at all. Everything may not be what you want to hear bit at least you get the truth and she will stand up for you in the most professional way.

Professional and Knowledgeable
I worked with Melissa to amend my child custody agreement post divorce. She was amazing to work with and I could not have a more favorable opinion. From the beginning, she was prompt to respond and showed great attention to detail while reviewing my original divorce decree. She took the time to ask me why things were written the way they did and what I wished my outcome to be. Throughout the process she focused on what was best for the kids and I and worked to minimize costs. At the end of the process, I had a court approved agreement that was more equitable and better for the kids and I. Melissa was so good that my ex-wife even commented on how professional she was! Melissa definitely receives the highest recommendation I could provide for any family law issues.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Melissa represented me in a very bitter divorce case. My ex was impossible to deal with and Melissa handled her with grace and dignity throughout the entire divorce. I was extremely impressed by Melissa’s knowledge of the law and her ability to think “outside of the box” when trying to resolve the difficult issues in my case. Melissa and her staff are always personable, respectful, caring and very professional. Melissa truly cares about her clients personally and professionally. If you are seeking a highly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced attorney to represent you in a divorce or child custody case, I would highly recommend Melissa F. Cornell and Cornell Law Firm.

Thank you so much! We take pride in trying to resolve difficult cases which sometimes requires that you think "outside the box." It is always important to discuss different options for settlement with your lawyer. Going to Court is time-consuming, expensive and, oftentimes, you do not get to tell the Judge everything you want to tell him/her anyway. It has been my experience that clients are more satisfied with the outcome if they were a part of the solution rather than leaving these difficult issues up to a Judge to decide.

Professional, including staff. Allowed my hands on tendency and respected my input. Always clear with thorough communication. I never had to leave a voice mail. We used email when possible. Fast responses or action on suitable input or what few concerns I would have. Kept me stress free.

Thank you, Joel! It is important that you feel you are getting the feedback you need from your lawyer because silence can cause unnecessary anxiety! It was a pleasure to assist you in resolving your case and I wish you nothing but the best!

Child Custody case
Melissa Cornell was my attorney for 4 years. I’m very familiar with her attorney skills and business practices. Everything the anonymous reviewer wrote (March 2017), was true in my case as well. Melissa botched everything from the beginning. She turned simple issues into complicated long-term problems. Weeks, sometimes months would go by, before she would respond to my calls and emails. Monthly bills were outrageously high. Questionably large amounts of time billed for “reviewing” and “drafting”. My case went to trial and Melissa was an epic failure in the courtroom. I was unaware that she failed to file vital documents to protect me, and my child. I lost custody of my child to her abusive father. Melissa had no explanation, no compassion, nothing. She demanded more money and I refused, so she withdrew. Melissa left me, my child, my entire family in a devastating situation. She made over 6 figures from me, and she’s still after more money. 4 months after she withdrew, she billed me $700 for administrative fees? I’ve found countless billing ”mistakes” such as charging me double for her presence at trial, and charging me thousands for her daughter to sit in the courtroom and take notes? I will never use Melissa Cornell again, for anything.

Our firm regrets that you had a bad experience. A lawyer has a duty to maintain all client confidences, so we cannot address your concerns here. While we disagree that your post presents a fair and accurate picture of the events, we would welcome the opportunity to talk with you and go through any of your concerns or questions. Even though our representation ended approximately two (2) years ago, we very much want to do anything we can to clarify any misunderstandings and for us to both learn from this experience. We strive to provide the best outcomes for every client in every case within the confines of the legal system. Again, we welcome the opportunity to meet with you, and wish all the very best things for you. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to address your needs.
