Malcolm Savage was born in Detroit, Texas, as the eighth of nine sons born to Robert “Hoss” Savage and Dorothy Savage. While in high school, Malcolm hauled hay and worked in a commercial nursery to save money for college. He graduated at the top of his high school class. During this time he learned valuable lessons about hard work and commitment that allowed him to become the first person in his family to graduate from college.
Malcolm contributed to his education at Austin College through scholarships and working for the school. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree, in Business Administration, in 1991, and was an All Conference Basketball Player. Malcolm went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from the Oklahoma City University, College of Law in 1998, graduating in the top 10% of his class. He was named to Phi Delta Phi honor fraternity, Law Review, and elected Board of Governors-President during his college career.
Savage received an Oklahoma Association of Black Lawyers scholarship, CALI Award for Excellence in Trial Practice, Dean’s Student Service Award, and Board of Governors Student Service Award. He served as an Intern under Judge Vicki Miles-LaGrange (Federal District Judge) and under Judge Charles Johnson (Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals).
After receiving his law degree, he served as an Attorney in the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office from 1998-2002, he then served as an Associate for Lytle Soule & Curlee from 2002-2003. He then worked in private practice with Law Offices of Malcolm M. Savage from 2003-2005.
Savage was appointed by Governor Brad Henry to the District Judge position of the 7th Judicial District inOklahomaCounty on November 30, 2005, to fill a position left vacant by the death of Judge Susan Bragg. At that time Governor Henry proclaimed in a press release “Malcolm Savage is an ideal choice for district judge. He possesses the experience, integrity, temperament and intellect needed to be an excellent jurist. I fully anticipate that Malcolm Savage, a man of rare qualities and talents, is destined to distinguish himself as a truly outstanding judge.”
Savage is now back in private practice focusing on criminal defense. Savage is the proud father of one son and three daughters. He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Oklahoma County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Association of Black Lawyers, the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Oklahoma County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Savage was recognized by the Journal Record for Leadership and Law and named Pro- Bono Attorney of the Year by the Oklahoma Bar Association.
