Travis graduated magna cum laude from Oklahoma City University School of Law as a Merit Scholar. While in law school, Travis was named to the Dean’s List and Faculty Honor Roll multiple times. He also won CALI Excellent Awards for the highest scoring grades in his class in Civil Procedure I, Legal Research and Writing II, Trial Practice, and Corporations law.
Travis was selected as a Staff Editor for the Oklahoma City Law Review and was inducted into several honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, the International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi, and Phi Delta Alpha's Society of Scholars. Travis gained experience interning for several law firms, including one firm that represented police officers in criminal, civil, and administrative matters. Travis also had the privilege to serve as a judicial extern for the Chief Judge of the Oklahoma County District Court.
Sensing a call to help others, Travis joined his local volunteer fire department in northeast Oklahoma while still in high school. He saw life on the front lines as a rural firefighter, responding to structure fires, brush fires, car crashes, and medical calls.
After graduating college, Travis worked full-time as a commissioned police officer in the Oklahoma City Police Department. While on the force, Travis served in various roles ranging from patrol to investigations, and was selected as a Field Training Officer. As a detective, Travis quickly learned to manage complex investigations and was tasked with investigating crimes committed against children, including child homicides. Working with the Special Victims Unit of the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office, Travis helped to bring to justice scores of violent offenders and gained invaluable skills, which serve him well in the practice of law today.
On the force, Travis earned numerous commendations from his department, including a Life-Saving Award for rescuing a man from a burning car and the Medal of Honor—the department's highest mark of distinction—for his heroic actions during an officer-involved shooting. Travis also earned the Committee of 100’s H.K. "Tony" A Calvert Award, given to first responders who show exceptional bravery in the face of grave danger. After nearly a decade of service, Travis joined Les to form Bennett Vernier.
Travis holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics and Law from Southern Nazarene University where he served as a student representative to the Board of Trustees and played lead trumpet in the SNU Jazz Band.
Travis and his wife attend church in northwest Oklahoma City. In his spare time, Travis loves road biking and watching OU beat Texas.
