Biography
Collin Melancon is an accomplished Lafayette personal injury attorney with Mansfield Melancon Car Accident and Personal Injury Lawyers. He co-founded the firm with three other experienced lawyers after refining his skills at a prominent defense firm in New Orleans.
Collin's practice spans a variety of cases, including wrongful deaths, sexual abuse, serious personal injuries, complex business disputes, and individual conflicts. He is licensed to practice in all Louisiana state courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
From 2020 to 2023, Collin was recognized as a Louisiana Super Lawyers Rising Star for Personal Injury, a distinction given to less than 2.5% of attorneys in the state. He serves on the board of the Louisiana State Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (YLD), representing New Orleans. Additionally, he was appointed to a three-year term on the Louisiana Supreme Court Judicial Council as the LSBA YLD Representative and is a member of the LSBA Professionalism Committee.
Collin graduated summa cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, finishing first in his class in the Louisiana Civil Law Division. He received the Spirit of St. Ignatius Award, Loyola Law School's highest honor. During his time at Loyola, he was a member and board member of Loyola’s Law Review, competed in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, and served as Chief Justice of Loyola’s Honor Board.
Before practicing law, Collin worked as a commissioned sheriff’s deputy in East Baton Rouge Parish. He earned a B.A. in International Studies with a minor in Political Science from Louisiana State University.
