Miles A. Matt is a 1979 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After engaging in post-graduate engineering studies, he obtained a law degree from Louisiana State University in 1988. He is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in Louisiana and has trial experience in federal, state, Social Security, and city courts. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Louisiana Association for Justice, the Lafayette Bar Association, the Lafayette Parish Bar Foundation, and the Acadiana Inn of Court. He is also a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society. He is past president of the Lafayette Bar Association and currently serves as Chairman of the Lafayette Parish Bar Foundation. He has been a member of the Louisiana Super Lawyers for the past several years. Mr. Matt’s professional career began in the South Louisiana and Gulf of Mexico oil industry where he was employed as an engineer in a variety of areas. He was a part of the design, drilling, and completion of wells, functioning as an on-site company representative (company man), designer, project manager, installer, and supervisor of production platforms and other facilities. His experience ranges from office engineering projects, governmental permitting, to working 7 & 7 on offshore drilling rigs and production facilities. After obtaining his law degree, Mr. Matt immediately focused his practice on personal injury cases involving the oil industry, product defects, and serious truck and automobile accidents that (usually) require accident reconstruction engineering. His engineering background is a significant benefit to his clients, enabling him to quickly analyze accident causes to determine who or what is at fault for a client’s injuries. His litigation and trial experience afford him the ability to expose the errors of those so-called experts hired by big oil and insurance companies to do nothing but lay blame on the injured worker. For more than 20 years, Mr. Matt has fought tirelessly both for the straightforward and the highly complex cases—those that many other lawyers simply refuse to handle.
