Biography
Born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, William Ken Hawkins (“Ken”) is a graduate of LSU, received his J.D. from Loyola University, and his L.LM. from Tulane University. He has practiced law throughout south Louisiana since 1988, and has handled workers’ compensation and longshore claims exclusively since 1993. He takes great pleasure in representing injured workers and getting them the benefits they deserve. He remains active in his trial practice, and is skilled at the appellate level. He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars, having taught over 40 workers’ compensation seminars to other Louisiana attorneys since he opened his own practice in 1999. In 2004, Ken was appointed by Governor Kathleen Blanco to the Advisory Council on Workers’ Compensation. He was reappointed in 2008 by Governor Bobby Jindal, As the plaintiff’s attorneys’ representative on the Council, Ken drafted legislation and frequently testified at the House and Senate Labor committees about laws that affect injured workers in Louisiana. He also served on over five Task Forces dealing with the recent changes in workers’ compensation law and related issues. Long recognized for his ability to resolve disputes in a calm and thoughtful manner, Ken also mediates workers’ compensation and longshore claims. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, The New Orleans Bar Association, The Baton Rouge Bar Association and a national organization dedicated to the rights of injured workers, Workplace Injury Litigation Group. A resident of Ponchatoula with his wife and five sons, Ken is proud to run a local business in his community and is a frequent sponsor of recreational and educational activities in Tangipahoa Parish.
