Biography
Justin McCarthy Chopin is the owner and managing attorney of The Chopin Law Firm, with licenses to practice in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. As a native of New Orleans, Mr. Chopin is acutely aware of the many legal challenges that face the people and businesses along the Gulf Coast. The Chopin Law Firm focuses its practice on representing individuals for serious personal injuries, property damage and insurance disputes, and employment disputes.
Throughout his career, Mr. Chopin has worked in numerous practice areas, each with an emphasis in litigation. He has worked for one of the largest defense firms in America and some of the most highly regarded firms in the region.
Our firm has extensive experience in all personal injury matters, including maritime personal injury, medical malpractice, slips and falls, auto accidents, and more. We have also successfully represented home owners and business owners in claims against their insurance company for bad faith. Mr. Chopin's extensive experience as a defense lawyer provides him with a unique perspective that other lawyers simply do not have. In short, he knows all of the tricks defense lawyers and insurance companies use.
In recognition of his achievements, Mr. Chopin was awarded the highest possible rating for ethical standards and legal ability (“AV” Preeminent) by Martindale Hubbell. He has been selected by Louisiana Super Lawyers in 2020 and as a Rising Star in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019; named by New Orleans Magazine as a Top Attorney in the fields of Admiralty/Maritime and Commercial Litigation in 2012, Commercial Litigation in 2013 and 2014, and Creditors Rights in 2014; Personal Injury in 2017 and 2019, and named by New Orleans City Business as a Top 50 Leader in Law in 2012.
In his spare time, Mr. Chopin serves as a member of Loyola Law School's Skills Faculty. He is also actively involved in the Louisiana State Bar Association where he sits on the House of Delegates and previously served two elected terms as the District One Representative to the Young Lawyers Division. Mr. Chopin was awarded the Bat P. Sullivan, Jr. Chair’s Award for services to the Bar in 2011.
He is a member of the Committee on the Profession and the Client Assistance Fund Committee which is dedicated to helping clients who were defrauded by their attorney. Mr. Chopin was appointed by the Louisiana Supreme Court to serve as an Assistant Examiner for Civil Code I in 2014.
