I've never had to use a lawyer before, for any reason - so was clueless about the procedures going into a child custody case. Not only was Dixie beyond informative, she made the entire legal process understandable and simple. She gave me exact instructions and would be quick to answer any questions I... had so that I was well prepared on the day of court. Things could not have gone more smoothly in regards to my case. I had a consultation with Dixon Brown by phone concerning child support. My ex was taking me back to court for a increase on child support. I contacted Dixon Brown to find out my options for fighting the child support. She started by reading the Louisiana state law concerning child support, which I h...ad already read myself. This lasted quite a while and was no help. Anyone could look that info up and read it. She then asked about my finances and told me "Well, if you don't want to pay more child support, you shouldn't make so much money." I then explained to her that I had been paying for other things on my own accord in addition to the ordered child support. I wanted this to be taken into account. She told me "The law is pretty black and white. You will pay what the state orders based on you and your ex's income." She was very cold and impersonal. The consultation was supposed to be an hour long, but lasted only about 35-40 minutes. I was not even refunded for the unused time. So, I spent 250 dollars for nothing. I ended up getting another lawyer who did give me options to fight back. We gathered all the receipts and info to take into account everything I had paid in addition to the child support. It was not as "black and white" as Dixon Brown said it would be.
