First time Defendant—now at a loss of $7,000 for 1 hour worked.

Carlos Monzon said he could handle my misdemeanor case for $7000, I paid him, and signed Client Trust Contract.. the next morning I get a call from a “long time friend/lawyer” of Carlos’… who doesn’t even work at the same firm… stating that Carlos is busy with another case so he asked her to cover f...or him. Over the next 6 months Carlos filed 4 continuances on my case due to his “conflicting schedule from other client trial”, without even discussing it with me beforehand, causing a continued hearing to be continued to the day I’m supposed to be in a different state. I had to find a new lawyer and never received any of the $7,000 back from Carlos Monzon. I have a bad feeling this is all too common in Nebraska for first time defendants who have no clue what to expect.. rob you blind. My advice is be so so careful when researching to hire a good lawyer.. “top lawyer in the nation” headlines means nothing. After obtaining a new attorney, only then did I experience what a GOOD hired lawyer SHOULD show his/her client— communication, transparency, honesty, helpfulness, interest in hearing about what I say. I get it, lawyers are beyond busy.. but even just the bare minimum would have been nice. It seems wrong to take on a case, receive the payment of 7,000$, and then immediately ask a lawyer friend from a different firm to “cover a warrant hearing”. Had I known that was going to happen— I wouldn’t have paid thousands of dollars for some lawyer I’ve never heard of to represent me in my first criminal case.

Really disappointed

We hired Mr. Monzon for a fairly simple case concerning my nephew. Mr. Monzon did some things well--consolidating charges and getting the lesser one dropped. But then he dropped the ball. His office did not file a needed waiver, landing my nephew in jail for failure to appear--even though the appe...arance was supposed to have been waived. Although his office did help me get my nephew out of jail after 5 days, Mr. Monzon did not return calls, emails, or even a certified letter asking for a clarification of what was going on. Much more troubling is that Mr. Monzon did not return my nephew's calls in the two weeks before the sentencing date, did not speak to my nephew, did not solicit any letters from me or others who knew my nephew, including doctors and counselors, and misrepresented the facts in his presentation to the judge. My nephew's sentence, though within the guidelines, was substantially beyond what we had expected, had relevant information been presented. Although we would have been disappointed by the sentence in any case, we would have accepted it as unavoidable if we believed that our lawyer had fully and faithfully presented the many mitigating circumstances to the judge.

Best of the Best

My husband hired Carlos Monzon for me in a federal indictment. Carlos went above and beyond with my case. If you want the best, then look no more. Carlos is passionate about his work and does it well.

Great attorney

I hired Carlos to represent me in a federal indictment were I was facing 0 to 20 years. I already consulted with 5 other Attorneys. All the other Attorneys either would not take my case or told me the best they could do was Get 5 to 7 years. Carlos not only took my case but he took it to trial. Throu...gh out the trial I was amazed at how organized he was and how prrpared he was. He had the jury memorized with facts. Not only was I impressed with his knowledge of the case, the case was ultimately thrown out after the prosecution presented its case. His presence in the court was far superior to the prosecution. I would recommend Carlos Monzon law firm to anyone facing any kind of charges. Also his staff was always professional and kept me informed on everything throughout the case. I can't thank them enough his law firm saved my life.
