Don't trust their billing!

I hired Mr. Bishop for a routine matter. It ended up costing me more than twice what I expected. He billed me for 3 hours to read perhaps a dozen pages of documents so if you do hire him, be prepared for the fact that he's apparently a very slow reader. I was willing to pay what he billed until I ...looked more closely at the statements from his office. In two out of the three months, he billed me for activities that were clearly not relevant to my case. He billed me, at least twice, for work that he did for other clients on other cases. When I called to inquire, I was told that I could go over the bill and let them know in writing anything that wasn't mine, and they would decide whether to remove the charge. The woman who answered the phone told me (with a laugh!) that they had two cases with similar numbers and had put some of the work for the other case on my bill by mistake. I have no way of knowing when Mr. Bishop was working on my case during the time that he billed me, and when he might have been doing something else but "accidentally" billing me for his time. His office has already demonstrated that they can't keep cases straight when it comes to charging clients, so I am not confident that I can identify other parts of the bill that may also be in error. One mistake I might dismiss as simple carelessness. But two obvious errors in billing for a very simple case? Either unacceptably sloppy, or worse. I would avoid this law practice. If you do decide to use Mr. Bishop, be aware that while he is telling you a boring and long-winded story (in our case about how they bought the building and moved in) he is also billing you nearly $5 per minute. We sat and politely listened to him, but you shouldn't.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
