Dishonest In Her Personal Business Dealings

She was referred to me by a good customer. Its the ultimate compliment when a customer thinks enough of you to refer new business. Valerie had me perform some minor repairs on a vacant home that she wanted to lease out. All of the work was meticulously completed in a timely and professional manner. T...he one exception was the installation of the dishwasher, as she never purchased one. Once all of the other work was completed she inspected it and told me it looked good. I expected to receive her check, but suddenly she walked out of the house saying something about an appointment. I emailed her the invoice and attempted to communicate by phone and tex, with no response. After a few days of being completely ignored, I did background check and found that she had a history of moving to multiple addresses, avoiding her creditors. Several years ago she had even attempted to litigate a bankruptcy pro-se, which was dismissed by the judge. I've since sent her account to an attorney for collection. Low and behold, when the attorney called her regarding this unpaid bill, she told him that she's going to file another bankruptcy claim. She owes me several thousand dollars and since I have a small business with minimal cash flow, this has caused me personal hardship. I had to take out a loan to pay my rent and other bills in the month of November. I also filed a complaint against her with the Missouri Bar requesting a review of her licensing. I feel that she had planned on not paying me from the beginning. I hope anyone considering doing business with Valerie will read my reviews and reconsider doing business with her. There's nothing worse or more hypocritical than a dishonest lawyer.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"Valerie is an extremely intelligent woman who passionately represents her clients. She told me one time that she knew she would become a lawyer since she was 8 years old. She is extremely perceptive and she knows the law. This combination makes her an excellent advocate and I strongly recommend her to anyone seeking compassionate and correct legal advice."
