Steven Boyd Hillemann

I hired Steve to handle my divorce. I was only married for 2 1/2 years and didn't have children with my husband. My husband moved into my home and I was told the divorce should be an easy one. My husband wanted money out of the equity in my home. I paid $12,000 to get documents subpoenaed and his ti...me to prepare emails and such. My husband stated he wanted to mediate rather than go to trial. We all met at Steve's office. My ex wanted me to pay him $68,000 out of the equity of my home. We had purchased him a $58,0000 truck and an enclosed trailer. We paid off his school loans in the amount of $17,000, paid off his IRS debt with his ex wife of $10,000 and paid off his credit card debt. In our meeting when Steve brought the preposterous request, his response was that I can just refinance my home and pay him off. I was in tears. We couldn't come to a resolution. After I got home, I sent Steve an email stating I wasn't sure whose side he was on and that only being married 2 1/2 years, I didn't see why I should pay him and he fired me as a client. He did NOTHING to fight for me WHATSOEVER, yet he kept his money.

Did not keep me informed of issues and status of case. Made many statements of what he was going to be doing, most of them did not occur. Easy to like and believe in. Was going to terminate him on more than 1 occasions, after speaking with him changed my mind. Unfortunately the same type of issues co...ntinued to occur and the cycle repeated itself. I ended up after 18 months of constant delays and unfulfilled promises and a wasted $20,000 I had to discharge him and start all over.

Divorce is hardship on anyone who goes through the process. Steve was upfront and direct when explaining the law and how it applies to my case. He never "promised" me anything and was very responsive to my calls and requests. I understand each case is unique, however, if I have to file any motions... to modify or go through this again, I will be contacting Steve Hillemann.
