As other have noted on this page, Patrick J. Coyne does appear to be a competent and effective attorney. However, he is the exact opposite of competent and effective. After I hired Patrick in May 2015 and paid him a retainer fee, I never once saw him or spoke with him again, despite repeated attempts by me to speak with him. He failed to arrive to a court date and everything he said about getting my case dropped or dismissed never happened. I truly don't understand how people like this are still allowed to practice law. He was very dishonest and unethical. I wouldn't ever hire this guy for any case!

I hired Patrick Coyne as my attorney in February 2016 for a simple probation violation. I was trying to be assessed and accepted into drug court, which I explained to Patrick before I paid him the retainer fee. Patrick specifically stated that he could 100% get me accepted into drug court and that he was close friends with the prosecuting attorney in Warren County's drug court program, so it would be a "slam dunk", thats what Patricks words were at least. Immediately after paying him a $2,000 retainer fee, it was virtually impossible to get ahold of him through phone or email. He refused to answer any and all questions I had regarding my case, took absolutely no action to get me into drug court, failed to appear for my first 2 court appearances, acted as if he didn't have time for me and just plain screwed me over in so many ways.
After Patrick finally decided to show up to my 3rd court appearance, he immediately informed me that the prosecuting attorney didn't want to let me into drug court and that was the final answer. Im the ideal candidate for drug court because my conviction was alcohol related as well as my probation violation. I'm a non-violent offender with no prior prison commitments and have a specific and persistent issue with drug and alcohol abuse. Drug courts eligibility criteria literally says that a person with chronic alcohol/drug abuse issues, is a non violent offender and has convictions relating to drug or alcohol abuse, is the ideal candidate for the program.
Patrick was extremely unprofessional in the manner he handled my case from the beginning. The day of my probation violation hearing, Patrick decided to arrive at the courthouse 1 hour late. I wasn't afforded the right to consult with Patrick before my case was called and he explained absolutely nothing to me about what exactly was taking place. Suddenly, the judge called day case, as I stood up the judge ordered my 5 year prison sentence to be executed and remanded me into the custody of the Missouri DOC. Disturbing to say the least.
