Theodore Roosevelt Bynum III

As a member of the Technology, Manufacturing & Transportation industry group, T.R. represents clients in a wide variety of industries at bench and jury trials in Missouri and Illinois, with experience both as a first chair and as a member of a larger trial team. T.R. is also a practiced public speaker and writer, with experience presenting legal arguments before state and federal courts nationwide.

T.R. advocates for clients of all sizes, from individuals to corporations, and assists these clients in developing and executing appropriate and cost-effective strategies for all phases of dispute resolution, from pre-litigation through appeal.

T.R. has successfully defended actions involving breach of contract disputes, commercial litigation, consumer fraud, creditors’ rights issues, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA),the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), and asbestos, benzene and prescription drug litigation matters for various manufacturing, chemical, biotechnology, agricultural and healthcare industry clients. He has also received favorable results for pro bono and appointed clients, primarily in the area of civil rights claims.

Before attending law school, T.R. was a detective with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, where he was also assigned to the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.

T.R. is currently a member of the firm’s Executive Recruiting and Diversity Steering Committees and was named a 2015 Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD).

Representative Experience:

Achieved favorable outcomes for financial institutions in numerous bench trials involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, “check ordering” and misrepresentation claims.

Successfully prosecuted breach of fiduciary duty claims on behalf of beneficiary in bench trial against former trustee.

Represented, as part of a larger defense team, a proprietary career college in a successful five-week jury trial involving consumer fraud claims brought by former students.

Defended, as part of a larger defense team, manufacturer in two-week jury trial involving personal injury claims relating to exposure to metal working fluids (MWF).  

Received summary judgment in federal district court on behalf of trucking company in $1.1M insurance dispute, which was later affirmed on appeal.

Obtained jury verdict on behalf of property owner in a trial arising out of liability for catastrophic damage to her residence.

Conducted investigation on behalf of municipality into allegations of self-dealing and corruption by public official.

Represented inmate at jury trial in 42 U.S.C. § 1983 action alleging excessive force against prison correctional officer.
