I have been involved in litigation for years and had the opportunity to see large number of attorneys in action. Domestic litigation (divorce or child custody) is a highly emotionally charged time. There are attorneys who will happily charge you hundreds of dollars an hour to soothe you emotional...ly and tell you what an amazing person you are and what a horrible person your (soon to be) ex is. Rick is not one of those attorneys. He will encourage you to use common sense and be as pragmatic as possible. He also works to make sure that you are being billed for his legal expertise rather than his emotional encouragement. This is exactly what you want in an attorney. He took over a difficult case and handled it with grace. He was careful to only bill me for what he actually did. If a close friend of mine were to share with me that they were going through a divorce and needed a good attorney, Mr. Steiger is who I would recommend. Without hesitation.

I had seen a different attorney for information, but when I needed them, they did not have time and sent me to Rick. He was able to see me and file a motion the same day. I feel like his rates are very reasonable. One reason I think is that he does not respond every time you want to tell him somet...hing. It was difficult at first to connect with Rick through his staff. I discussed this with Rick. I found that, because he is so busy, the phone was not the best way of reaching him, but e-mailing was a great way to communicate, He explained that he would receive information ,but unless there was something we needed to act on, he "put it in the file." I took that as not interested. After we talked, he would then send a short, "OK", "I got it", "keep me posted"...something like that. And it didn't cost $100 every time. Most divorce is complicated and very emotionally charged. Rick "talked me off the ledge" more than once. I appreciated how he explained the procedure of court and the divorce process and realistic expectations. My course, though long, worked its way just like he said it would. We met before depositions and court and walked through how things would go. I felt very prepared and able to answer questions without emotion. My situation is long and will continue for quite some time. Rick and his staff with check in from time to time to make sure that orders are being followed and see if there is anything going on they need to know. I feel like Rick listens, keeps things "real", and keeps everything on track. I am VERY glad that Rick has my back.
