I am Ryan R. Bradley, an attorney at Heyl Royster based in the Champaign office, where I serve clients throughout Central Illinois. With nearly two decades of legal practice, my focus is dedicated to the complex areas of Business and Financial Litigation, strategic Commercial Transactions, and comprehensive Wealth and Succession Planning.
My background as a former entrepreneur and business owner provides me with an uncommon advantage. I approach legal challenges not just as academic problems, but as practical business issues, allowing me to deliver pragmatic and effective solutions to individuals, businesses, and institutions. I have been instrumental in guiding clients through multi-million-dollar transactions and have served as a tenacious advocate in both the boardroom and the courtroom.
My Practice Areas
My practice involves a diverse caseload, specializing in areas critical to business owners and high-net-worth individuals:
Business & Commercial Litigation: I handle complex contract disputes, shareholder litigation, consumer fraud defense, and securities litigation.
Business Organizations & Transactions: I advise companies from formation to successful exit, including mergers & acquisitions, corporate governance, and complex structuring.
Real Estate & Agricultural Law (Agribusiness): I manage transactions and disputes related to real estate, land use, and the agricultural industry, which is vital to Central Illinois.
Estate Planning, Wealth & Succession Planning: I develop comprehensive plans for wealth preservation and business continuity for entrepreneurs and families.
Venture Capital & Startups: I provide strategic counsel to financial institutions, venture capital funds, and early-stage companies.
Civil Litigation & Torts: I represent clients in serious matters involving professional liability, medical malpractice, products liability, and general civil litigation.
Mediation Services & Alternative Dispute Resolution: I use my experience in negotiation and arbitration to achieve efficient and favorable settlements, prioritizing client resolution.
My Experience, Results, and Approach
I have extensive experience litigating in state and federal courts across the United States. I have successfully argued before the Illinois State Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. My litigation practice includes handling matters before the Multidistrict Litigation Panel (MDL) and complex national class actions.
Notable Achievements:
Conflict Resolution: I am highly skilled in achieving negotiated resolutions and have successfully settled multiple seven-figure cases through effective mediation and arbitration.
Defense Verdict: I successfully obtained a defense verdict for a jailor in an Illinois State Law Battery claim (McGee v. Macon County Sheriff's Dept, et al).
Transactional Counsel: I have served as a trusted advisor, guiding numerous businesses through all stages, from initial formation to major multi-million-dollar transactions and successful exits.
My legal philosophy centers on taking an assertive yet balanced approach. I focus on early problem identification and resolution to avoid protracted litigation, but I am always fully prepared to take a case to verdict when necessary to protect my client's interests.
I love to read and enjoy writing and commenting on business and legal issues, I have been published or quoted in Forbes, Inc., The Huffington Post, James Publishing, , Success Magazine, The Street, and others. I also serve as the editor of the American Bar Association's Law of Class Actions Manual and two Chapters on Consumer Causes of action for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
I am a native of the Washington, DC area, and have a strong interest in government and politics and has provided counsel to multiple campaigns. I played Division One Tennis for Loyola University and am diehard supporter of the University of Illinois's tennis team. I am the current president of the CU Tennis Association which focuses on bringing professional tennis to Central Illinois. Away from the office, I spend time with my wife and four kids, traveling to swim meets and dance recitals all over the country and, when time allows, going to concerts, fly fishing, and watching history documentaries.

Honest & Smart!
Although I didn't hire Ryan (turned out my case required a different kind of attorney), but I did have a consult with him which was very empowering. I credit Ryan in part for my winning my lawsuit because he pointed me in the right direction, educated me on Illinois laws in the area of contract labor...
"I worked with Ryan on a few difficult car and truck cases in Central Illinois. He knows the law, but more importantly he can simply get the work done. He is also in constant contact with his clients as I believe he gives every client his cell phone number."
"I recently tried a case opposite Mr. Bradley, and he showed himself to be highly capable. Mr. Bradley offered pragmatic solutions to complex legal problems, and his professionalism in the courtroom was a service to his clients and to the bar."
"Ryan is a skillful personal injury attorney who has earned the respect of his colleagues for his tireless work ethic and the exceptional results he obtains for his clients. I recommend him highly."
"I have worked with Ryan in a collaborative setting several times. Over the years, we have come to recognize the value of relying upon each others different areas of experience even while working for different law firms. Ryan is good at what he does and puts his clients first from what I have seen."
