I first contacted Prairie Legal Services several months after my Mother entered a nursing home. She was being sued by the nursing home and was going to be released for non-payment and I needed to apply for MEDICADE assistance. I had no idea where to begin. Once I contacted Prairie Legal Services, I... received a call from Miles Bardell, who was assigned to my Mother's case. We had our first meeting on January 28, 2016, at the nursing home my Mother resided in. I explained my Mother's circumstances and asked him if he could help me navigate my way through them. Mr. Bardell explained what would need to be done for each circumstance, what to expect and the role I would need play as POA. After this initial meeting, I signed a Retainer Agreement in February 2016, on behalf of my Mother. As the process began, Mr. Bardell was diligent in preparing/explaining/assisting me with all of the paperwork required to address the Involuntary Transfer/Discharge issue and how I could apply for MEDICADE assistance. Mr. Bardell was present at every hearing, via telephone conference, that was required by the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, which resulted in the withdrawal of the Notice of Involuntary Transfer or Discharge for my Mother. First issue solved. Next issue was applying for MEDICADE coverage. During this time, Mr. Bardell counseled me on the liquidation of my Mother's assets, including the sale of her home/contents/life insurance/anything she had with monetary value to satisfy the MEDICADE process. Mr. Bardell was again present at every hearing required by the Department of Health and Family services to obtain the final goal of MEDICADE coverage for my Mother which resulted in APPROVAL for her to receive it. Mr. Bardell and I met on several occasions in person, communicated through email and phone calls. He was always well prepared and kept in constant contact with me to let me know how the process was going and to make sure I understood everything that was occurring. Mr. Bardell was very professional when conducting business, was always available to me when I had questions and was very knowledgeable about the process. If there was anything he was unsure about, he did research and made phone calls to make sure I was doing things properly. There isn't enough time or space to tell you how much I appreciated working with Mr. Bardell. He truly was a God send and I would recommend him to EVERYONE. I couldn't have gotten through any of this without him.
