Ryan Pianetto represents clients in many aspects of intellectual property law, including patent and trademark litigation, freedom-to-operate, intellectual property due diligence and transactions, and patent and trademark preparation and prosecution. Ryan has counseled clients of various sizes from individual inventors to Fortune 500 companies on diverse technologies, including medical and surgical devices, a wide array of mechanical systems and devices, and electromechanical devices. He is a member of the State bars of Illinois and Indiana, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. 

Prior to joining the firm, Ryan gained substantial experience at another intellectual property law firm and a large intellectual property services provider where he prepared and prosecuted patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, performed patentability, freedom to operate, invalidity, and clearance opinions and searches, and drafted written opinions for PCT patent applications on behalf of the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Ryan received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was listed on the Dean’s Honor List and received a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law. He earned a Bachelor of Science with honors in Civil Engineering and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Iowa. As an undergraduate, he worked for a local engineering firm, focusing on design and oversight consulting involving high-voltage distribution.
