I had high expectations, bad results

Derek Lax and his assistant Latoya, are very poor communicators and have no empathy for their client. If I needed something I would have to call or email them and usually it would go unanswered. Month and months passed by and I would not have any updates on my case or help from either of them. I felt... like there was no empathy for me the client who was very much in pain and no urgency to help with anything. I would always have to reach out to them for any updates and there was rarely any. And on top of that, I would always have to do things on my own (book doctors appointments, talk to the third party for payment, etc). I would not recommend them… their lack of support and professionalism is crazy.

May be good lawyer but don't expect promptness.

As far as his knowledge on litigating a workman's compensation claim..it may be good since I do believe he puts in good effort, however, he is just not very responsive and therefore, the communication skills are lacking. If I wanted to find out what was going to happen at a hearing and I called a ...few days prior, I didn't end up hearing from him until various days AFTER the hearing. Emails would go unanswered and I ended up talking to his assistant most of the time. Even when I had specific legal questions I needed to address, he was never available. I do not have unreasonable expectations. I was not expecting to talk to him each day..so his lack of getting back to any of my inquiries was aggravating. He may have the experience to navigate the Workman's Comp field but an attorney that does not maintain open lines of communication is just in my opinion, unacceptable.

I disagree with the above..

He kept me in the loop.. I know he is busy and if i wasnt able to get in contact with him when i called he always called back or made sure i received information on my case. I feel he always had my best interest at heart. i received all my benefits and once it was late but it was not his fault the in...surance company wanted to make it hard for me and he still continued to make sure i received my benefits till i was released and settled my case.
