LISA SCOTT - The best attorney in Immigration matters in the whole USA.

My association with Ms Lisa Scott starts from 2004, when Ms. Scott was our attorney to process my wife's H1-B visa and the dependent visas. We were so impressed, happy and satisfied with her excellent professional competence and sincerity, that when the time for my green card processing came in 2008,... I never bothered to even consider a second option, but approached Ms Scott again. I could not get an employer sponsored green card, due to certain employer policies. I discussed my options with her with respect to my background of 17 years of research experience as a plant scientist in my home country. Ms Scott reviewed my resume thoroughly and identified that I was eligible to apply for GC in EB1 category, without any sponsor, based only on my credentials. This was a big relief to me and my family as I was so concerned about the GC with my employer unable to sponsor me. Ms.Scott agreed to process my green card application and it was filed in April 2008. We had a lot of correspondence in this regard for getting all the documents ready for filing in EB1. I had to get a number of documents ready and Ms Scott provided me with templates to help me in this regard and was very patient with the time consuming process of getting all the documents ready. She reviewed them very meticulously and approved it. I should state that I am so happy with her proficiency in the latest immigration rules and regulations and extremely impressed with the perfect professional advices and suggestions she gave me, in this entire process. I should congratulate her for the most modern electronic procedures / software she uses to let us give her all the required data and other documents, with utmost ease. Everything was so well organized with no ambiguity. As a scientist, I value that a great deal. I was also very impressed for the quick response to all my questions with the right answers. Her experience, knowledge and sincerity draw my best words of appreciation for her. I should also place on record my appreciation for her staff, highly reflecting Ms. Scott's sincerity and professional abilities. I am proud to say I was a client of Ms Scott and would be happy to recommend her to anyone who needs to successfully get through the complex procedures of immigration. Thank you Lisa. We appreciate your help- a lot. Dr. Saji Abraham and Elizabeth, Chicago June 24, 2008

Professional immigration service

I contacted Lisa to help me with my green card application (National interest waiver). She is rigorous in her selection of clients. I appreciated this as this means that no one's time or money is wasted. Over many emails she carefully evaluated my situation before she told me she could help me. This ...initial consultation was free. I received a list of documentation required. Throughout the process Lisa was meticulous in gathering supporting evidence of my eligibility for a green card. I had to provide copies of awards, claims, publications and professional memberships. I also needed to supply a research statement and media articles which described my area of specialization. In some cases I had to choose what information to supply and her in-depth experience of immigration law really helped clarify what information was pertinent. Gathering all these pieces of documentation was a painful task, but I believe the effort was worth it. My green card application was approved in 3 months. I could not have hoped for a better result. In addition, Lisa was responsive to my email inquiries. I had inquires regarding overseas travel and employment while my application was being considered by USCIS. She was professional in all her responses - she made no false promises, and stuck to the facts. I recommend her without reservation.

REALLY BAD PERSON

This person is not accessible to talk even after you pay. All forms had mistakes while filling out. No attention to detail. Cause of her my case got dragged for years longer than it had to. Nothing to with USCIS just her bad behavior and unwillingness to be carful for her clients. She is a VERY BAD p...erson. I hope she stops practicing and does a major help to the society! I wish I never had met her or hired her.

It is difficult to respond to this review since I honestly do not know of any case in my office that has "dragged for years longer than it had to" as the review mentioned. While we do occasionally have typos on the first draft of forms, there are times that the mistakes are caused because the client, in completing the questionnaires, has made typos or typed in the wrong information. The questionnaires the client completes then autopopulates into the forms. On review, clients have noticed that there are mistakes- mistakes they have caused when completing the questionnaires. Either way, the forms are emailed to the client for review before we assemble the final package for filing with USCIS. Honestly, I am baffled by this review. I have no idea who is this. I am, however, very sorry that this person claims to have had a horrible experience working with me. Fortunately, this is not the typical experience I have with clients.

Deeply Disappointed

At first, I was optimistic about working with Lisa Scott. She came recommended by my university and was highly rated online. I paid the initial $250 consultation fee and spoke to her briefly on the phone and exchanged a couple of emails. For context, I was looking to obtain an F-1 visa while remai...ning in the US. Ms. Scott advised me to apply for a change-of-status from my current H-1B visa to an F-1 visa. I specifically asked whether such an arrangement would allow me to leave my current job and begin my studies by a certain date and she confirmed that it would. I was glad to hear this and on the basis of her guidance, I changed my plans for the year (i.e., cancelled travel to my home country, extended my employment term, and extended my lease). In the meantime, I decided to do some research on my own to better understand the immigration rules. I also sought a second opinion from two other law firms. This research confirmed that Ms. Scott's advice was not feasible and there was no way for me to change my visa status without maintaining active employment. This was a serious setback for me and meant that all the changes I made to my plans were for nothing. What I found especially alarming is that Ms. Scott never replied to the multiple follow-up emails I sent her. I asked her about some of the documentation that seemed to contradict her advice. I also asked if she would be willing to work with me to sort this out (for which I would pay beyond the initial consultation fee). I got no reply. To summarize, I feel completely let down. I received inaccurate information. And more importantly, I received no response to my multiple attempts to seek clarification.

Before responding, I reviewed my notes which included your initial email in which you said that because of COVID, you wanted to explore options of processing an F-1 visa in a third country or through a change of status. During our consultation, we discussed the impossibility of obtaining an F-1 visa in a third country and the lengthy processing times for change of status applications. I provided some advice on how to prepare the application. While you indicated that two other law firms believed you could not stop working, I do not agree and you and I discussed the possibility of filing the change of status application during the 60 day grace period that might be available to you if you terminated your employment earlier than the I-94 expiration date; the possibility of extending your H-1B visa status and whether your employer would agree to that; the options of staying with your H-1B employer until the expiration date; the options of taking a leave of absence, and also of going abroad for an F-1 visa (not, in my opinion, a great option given your time constraints). Before we concluded our consultation, I asked if you had any other questions. (I do this at the end of every consultation); you indicated that I had answered all of your questions. I provided a quote for my legal fee in preparing this application. The consultation ended and we did not enter into an attorney-client relationship. A few days later, I received an email from you. I provided you with guidance on the CPT issue in an email the same day.. I received another email from you, asking if I review the application for change of status that you prepared. I replied immediately saying that I did not feel comfortable doing this for ethical reasons. (I had already quoted a fee to you at the end of our consultation.) I have no idea why I did not see the last email you sent. I overlooked it in the many emails I receive everyday. Those individuals who decide to work with me have commented, in their reviews, that they are very happy with communications from my office. My assistant tells everyone of the story of us out for a hike and how I stopped while hiking on a mountain simply to email a client. That said, sometimes I do not receive or simply do not see an email. I apologize if you emailed me and I did not see it. From my viewpoint, I felt that I had been generous, spending the time to review and respond to your questions that arose after our consultation. I hope you were able to use some of the information I gave you during the consultation to achieve a good outcome.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
