The best attorney ever!

I’m currently a rising senior in high school, and the college application was looming ahead. I was very desperate to get my green card because I knew that I would need it to apply to many big scholarships as well as receive federal aid. My family had been waiting for 6 long years, with practically ra...dio silence from USCIS on our application status. Then, in March of this year, we received a Notice of Intent to Deny (NOID) from them, giving us 30 days to respond with evidence, lest we face deportation. That was a terrifying moment; I felt all my college dreams and future hopes slipping out of my fingers. My mother and I went to speak to the lawyer we had at the time (not Lisa), and he basically gave up on us immediately. He told us how impossible our case was, and how there was really no way to fight it and we should pretty much start getting packed and ready for deportation. We left his office and made the executive decision to get a different, better lawyer. We found Lisa online (this website actually!) right after, made a phone call to her office and within half an hour, were on our way to her office. While meeting her for the first time, she immediately struck me as an extremely attentive and caring listener, which let me know that she is an attorney who really cares about her clients. We gave her the copy of the NOID letter to read and, contrary to our previous lawyer’s opinion, did not consider our case impossible at all. Within the hour of meeting her, she had already strategized an approach for our case and gave us more hope than we’d felt in a while. She was unbelievably kind, empathetic and above all, amazing at her job. It was obvious to us while working with her that she knew very well what she was doing, and that she had a passion for it. She helped us successfully have our best response of evidence packaged in the allotted 30 days and sent back to USCIS. We were then back to waiting again. During our waiting time, I had also been pursuing a summer internship at Fermi National Acceleration Lab (Fermilab). I was extremely excited about this new opportunity, but I was almost unable to do it because I lacked not only a green card, but a valid work authorization. Wonderful Lisa, again, stepped in and directed me towards a solution for this problem. She got me in contact with someone in the senator’s office, who helped me get my application for work authorization expedited, and it came right in time for me to work at Fermilab! It was honestly a dream come true, and I appreciate Lisa greatly for helping me make it happen. Just 2 days ago, we received a letter in the mail from USCIS: An Approval Notice. Our green card was approved! I’ve never felt more joy. It was unbelievable timing as well: right before I entered the bulk of my college applications. After waiting for that news for 6 years, Lisa made it happen within 5 months, which is simply a testament to her incredible skill level as an attorney. I wholeheartedly recommend her as a lawyer; she cares about her clients and will put in all her efforts to help you get what you need. Lisa’s the best!

Thank you so much for these kind words and compliments. I am glad that you and your family trusted me to help out. I am also happy that you could participate in the Fermi Lab internship; it sounds like it was fun and that you learned a lot and made some good contacts. I hope you and your family stay in touch. I just wanted to add (a year later) that I am so proud of your accomplishments. Lisa

Highly Recommended

I know Lisa for the past 2 years. I met her initially in my University (UIUC) for a Immigration info session. A huge shout out to her as she makes an effort every year to travel and educate us with the Immigration process for International students. Lisa was very knowledge and precise. She has been k...ind and helpful since then. I have consulted Lisa for international travel options on OPT without a job offer and a number of times regarding my H1B petition from F1. It amazes me how she can respond at such a faster phase (almost instant) with a clear response and all possible options for the situation. I would highly recommend Lisa if you have any doubts with the US Immigration process!

Thank you for the kind words. I really like the time I get to spend with international students. I have been holding these kind of informative sessions at several universities (UIUC, DePaul, University of Toledo, Loyola, University of Illinois (UIC), UChicago Booth School of Business, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, going back to the 1990s. I think it is really important for students to create a strategy outlining immigration options as early as possible.

NIW

Lisa Scott is one amazing lawyer who goes above and beyond to help, and is arguably one of the best in the Chicago. I had reached out to Lisa last year in hopes to get an O-1 Artist Visa for visual arts after being a recent graduate in my Optional Practical Training (OPT). Instead of doing the bare m...inimum, Lisa and her team reviewed my case and decided to go with a National Interest Waiver (NIW). Throughout the whole entire process Lisa and her team were professional, kind, courteous, and timely with responses. It’s important to understand the people who work with Lisa both present and past are empathetic and ethical individuals that understand the anxieties and difficulty of immigration. The team is constantly working (including Lisa)- they reply to email promptly even during the weekends.

It’s important to note that through the process they drafted professional letters and compiled a polished and organized petition package. I was in constant contact with different members through the entirety of my petition. Fast forward one year with the new changes with immigration. I finally received my interview time. Lisa decided to attend my immigration interview to assure that the process will go smoothly. Her being present was helpful and very much appreciated. Then following day my green card was issued and within a week I had the physical card in my hand. Lisa is one lawyer that cannot be emulated. I will keep consulting Lisa for any future immigration lawyer because I learned through the whole process she has a whole reservoir of knowledge. Plus she’s got a great sense of humor and is very charismatic. She truly is wonderful.

Thank you for the kind words, especially for commenting on my "sense of humor". :) I really enjoyed working on your national interest waiver. I learned a lot about your work. I will say that I feel that I am lucky to have had decades of experience in this field that I use everyday to keep up with the new challenges and changes in immigration law.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
