Michael Andrew Kuiken

Michael Kuiken concentrates his practice in the areas of large scale commercial litigation, antitrust, insurance and reinsurance coverage counseling and litigation, breach of contract, breach of warranty, construction litigation, and corporate advisory matters. He also has experience in the areas of commercial loss recovery/subrogation, automobile negligence, copyright and intellectual property, premises liability, qui tam claims, medical malpractice defense, financial services litigation, directors and officers liability, regulatory and securities advisory matters, and real estate transactional matters. Mr. Kuiken has litigated before state and federal courts in over twenty-five (25) jurisdictions nationwide.

Mr. Kuiken has served as lead trial counsel in multiple negligence cases, winning jury verdicts on behalf of his transportation and premises clients.  Mr. Kuiken has also represented governmental entities in litigation matters, including securing a favorable outcome while serving as second chair trial counsel defending a governmental entity in a construction negligence matter where plaintiffs sought in excess of $20 million in damages.   

Prior to law school, Mr. Kuiken worked in television as a sportscaster for ABC and FOX affiliates in Tennessee and Louisiana.

Education

Mr. Kuiken earned his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2003 and his J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School in December, 2007.

Volunteer

Mr. Kuiken is one of the founding board members of the University of Michigan Law School Club of Greater Chicago, and has chaired multiple committees for the club. Also, since 2008, Mr. Kuiken has been a weekly volunteer via the Chicago Lights program, tutoring and mentoring an assigned individual student throughout his involvement with the program.
